Community Impact reports that following approval of a new partnership between the San Jacinto River Authority and the Lake Conroe Beach Park initiative, the park is reopening after closing in early 2024.
On March 27th, the San Jacinto River Authority approved a new lease agreement. The new agreement is with Leroy, Joan and Soraya Herbert to renovate and reopen the park as the Lake Conroe Beach Park by the end of next month.
Owner of the 1097 Watersports boat rental company, Leroy Herbert, also offers a pirate-themed cruise on the lake. The Herberts, during the meeting, said they plan to make several improvements to make the park a more beach-themed kind of place.
The group’s plan for the park was presented to the SJRA board by Soraya Herbert. The plan entails three phases for improvements.
It will take 2 to 3 month to complete Phase 1 which will include cleanup and inspection, hiring staff, opening an administrative office, restoring current areas and opening the food truck village.
It will take 4 to 6 months to complete Phase 2 which includes the amphitheater project, restoration of the recreation area, a new playground awaiting community partnerships, installation of the beach area and the installation of a beach cabana.
It will take 14 to 20 months to complete Phase 3 which includes an LED board, more water recreation amenities and improvements based on community feedback.
The team is planning a soft opening of the park on April 12th, according to Soraya Herbert. The grand opening is scheduled for May 24th.
